about

i found this collection in a box of cassettes while i was cleaning out my basement. they were gone and a little forgotten. they are the experimental works that happened between for him and the girls and last night we were (the delicious wolves). i was trying different ideas and ‘sounds’. that was still the hillsdale basement days. And i was blessed to have great influences around me at the time, like john southworth, karl mohr, hayden and the cash brothers. i was so excited when i first played this newfound tape.

i called karl mohr straight away to see if we could re-mix the stuff… but in his wisdom and true love of the old cassette sounds, suggested i just take what was there. i am inspired by the sound of freedom i hear, and the feeling that there were no rules when i was recording this music. It is so strangely humbling to record music and create lasting documents of life. it’s a peculiar map of time spent and directions stayed, and moved. at the time of this recording i was going to church. i was roasting dandelion roots for tea. i was hanging laundry on the line. i was walking through snowstorms. there was a quiet about me that has got me wondering. the unmistakable smell of puppy breath.
